I decided to devote a page to these three orchids for several reasons. They are all beautiful in their own
right.They all grow in bogs, and they are relatively common compared to many other orchids that grow in the Province.
There are other species of orchids that grow in bogs but these are some of the most beautiful.

The Dragon's Mouth Orchid,Arethusa bulbosa.
The "Dragon" is a fairly small plant growing not over 12 inches tall, but is easily spotted in a bog because
of it's beautiful colour. It is usually in flower by about the middle of June and it flowers for about three weeks or so.
If you are really fortunate(as I was) you may also find Grass Pink flowering in the same bog at the same time since
their flowering times overlap,with the "dragon" being the first to bloom.

Grass Pink,Calopogon tuberosus.
Grass Pink is a rather beautiful flower growing to about 12 inches or sometimes taller. As stated above,
if you are really fortunate you can find the "Dragon" blooming alongside Grass Pink. Both flowers on this page were photographed
in the same bog on July 19th 2007.

Rose Pogonia,Pogonia ophioglossoides.
Rose Pogonia could possibly be confused with the "Dragon" but the dragon only bears one flower whereas the
pogonia can have multiple blooms.Also the sepals and the petals of the pogonia are borne horizontally to the stalk whereas
the "dragon" has "ears" rather like "Bugs Bunny" :-)
